Tadaa!
Part 16
Javi sighed and attacked the potato lying on his plate. ‘Hey! I boiled them with love, and that gives you no right to attack it!’ Mikel said, squinted his eyes, and pointed with his fork at Javi. ‘Mikel, calm down.. Can’t you see that something’s bothering him?’ Basty said. ‘Nah.. I’m ok.. I just miss Julie..’ Javi said, and leaned his head onto his hand. Basty half-smiled. ‘Where is she?’ Javi brought a fork full food to his mouth, and paused to answer. ‘Paris..’ and he began to chew. ‘That’s not far away.. Compared to Columbia.. Why don’t you go and visit her?’ Javi shrugged his left shoulder. ‘Javi, get real. How long are you together?’ Basty answered. ‘Two years.’ Javi answered. ‘And how long are you living together?’ Basty continued. ‘One year..’ Javi said. ‘I don’t wanna play your dad Javi, but I think you should ask her to marry you.’ Mikel said. Javi spit his water out and stared at him. ‘I agree with Mikel. Javi, Sophia is gone. It’s time to begin a new family. A family with Julie. She’s a nice lady, really. Since you’re seeing her, you’re the Javi again I met; Happy.’ Basty said and looked at his friend. Javi looked from one to the other, and back. He sighed and lowered his eyes. ‘Maybe.. maybe you two are right.. I keep on dreaming about our wedding, about Julie being pregnant, about us playing with the children..’ Basty and Mikel smiled. ‘Good. Tomorrow you’ll pack your stuff, and go to Paris. You buy a ring, go with Julie to the Eiffel-tower, and ask her to marry you. Naww.. Winter in Paris; romantic.’ Mikel said. ‘Mikel Hennet, you’re the weirdest person I know, but for a weird-o you’re pretty damn clever.’ Basty said. ‘Thank you pineapple-head, I’m proud on it.’ He grinned. ‘Dork..’ Javi mumbled. ‘Aww.. But I’m your dork, and you love me. Admit it..’ Mikel said and looked at his friend, using his puppy-eyes. Javi laughed. ‘Ok, ok.. Yes, I do.’ Javi said, with a smile. Basty laughed, and they all ate their dinner.
Javi shivered. It was 7 in the morning, and cold. Mikel had driven him to the airport. All he had was a ticket to Paris, a reservation in a hotel for two nights and a suitcase. ‘Well, bon voyage mate. Say hi to Julie from us. Basty and I will pick you up here when you’re back.’ Mikel said. Javi inhaled deep, nodded, and walked into the gate where his plane would stand. Soon he would be in Paris. That thought made him smile. Not much later he was sitting inside the plane. A steward walked past him, pushing a cart with coffee and tea. Grateful Javi accepted a cup of coffee. Deep in his own world, he sipped from it. After a bit of waiting, the plane was ready to leave. Javi looked out of the window. ‘The sky was heavenly blue, and the world had a bit of white underneath him. Soon he would be with the woman he loved. The ring burned in his pocket. He laid his hand on it. A golden ring, with a tiny stone in it. ‘Gotta love tax free shops on an airport..’ He mumbled. An old man sat down next to him. He wore a black suit, and a pair of glasses stood on his nose. Javi turned around. ‘Good morning.’ The man said, and smiled. His gray eyes twinkled. ‘Morning.’ Javi said, and smiled as well. ‘Where are you going to if I may ask?’ the man asked. ‘Paris. My girlfriend is having a girl’s vacation with her friends there, and my friends practically kicked me into this plane..’ He smiled goofy, and rubbed his hair. The man laughed. ‘Why did they kicked you in here? If I were you, I’d run into this plane to visit her!’ The man said, with a slight tone of humor in his voice. ‘Yeah.. Good point.. Well, I do want to see her, I really miss her. They more kinda made me go there to propose her.’ Javi said, and played with the stir in his coffee. ‘Ah, I see.. That’s always tricky, isn’t it? I remember when I asked my wife to marry me. I was nervous as hell. She said yes, otherwise I wouldn’t be married with her for 40 years.’ He smiled. Javi nodded. ‘Yup, yup.. I’m pretty damn nervous.. And I’m not even there yet!’ the man laughed again. ‘Don’t worry, I’m sure she’ll say yes. How long do you know her?’ Javi rubbed his neck. ‘Ehmm.. About three, three and a half years now I think. We’re together for two now.’ He drank the last bit of coffee. ‘Ah, then it’s about time to ask her! You see, women don’t come flying into your arms. You must work.’ The man laid his hand on Javi’s shoulder. ‘I noticed yeah.. My wife past away years ago. It’s thanks to my girlfriend I began to pick up my old life again.’ He looked up to the man next to him. ‘I’m sorry to hear that, but it’s good that you found love again.’ The man smiled, and Javi nodded in agreement. ‘Where are you going to sir?’ The man took his own cup of coffee. ‘I’m going to Amsterdam for business. And please, call me Alejandro.’ Javi took the hand Alejandro stuck out to him. ‘Nice to meet you, I’m Javi.’ Both men smiled. During the short flight to Paris, they chatted about everything. ‘So you’re in a band?’ Javi nodded. ‘Together with two of my best friends. We represented Spain during the ESC in 2007.’ The man nodded once. ‘Impressive.. I think I’ve seen the final with my wife back then. She always wants to watch it haha. I’ll tell her that I met one of the finalists from 2007.’ Javi laughed. ‘Wait, can I have that napkin? Thanks. What’s your wife’s name?’ Javi asked while searching for a pen. ‘Mireya.’ Javi nodded, and began to write something on the napkin. ‘There. My autograph for your wife. I hope she’ll like it.’ He smiled, and gave the napkin back. ‘Thank you, I’m sure she will.’ Alejandro smiled. Soon the plane began to go down. It didn’t took long before everyone left it. ‘Good luck Javi. I’m sure she will say yes. You seem a nice man.’ Alejandro said while they shook hands again. ‘Thank you Alejandro. You too in Amsterdam.’ Both smiled, and went their own way. Javi went to pick up his suitcase. ‘Good, now get a cab to the hotel..’ he sighed, and walked out of the airport, into a Paris hidden under the snow.
